Intensive Outpatient Treatment for Adults in Minneapolis
CFF’s Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program for adults provides comprehensive, integrated outpatient care that allows clients to maintain a work or college schedule while receiving the treatment they need. Our adult IOP, offered Monday–Friday mornings, is for clients ages 18 and up who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, problem substance use, disordered eating, and other mental health issues that are interfering with daily functioning and thriving.
Who Is Intensive Outpatient Treatment For?
IOP can be the next step for adults who have completed a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or inpatient psychiatric care. Because Intensive Outpatient Treatment provides more support and structure than a weekly therapy session, IOP is ideal for adults who will benefit from consistent, ongoing care on an outpatient basis.
How Is IOP different from Outpatient Services?
Outpatient services for adults usually consist of an individual therapy session, perhaps once or twice a week. IOP offers a more substantial, structured treatment option, providing a higher level of care. Moreover, adults in IOP form a supportive community with others who are in recovery from mental health and/or problem substance use.
Evidence-Based Modalities
Through modalities including Emotion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, adults process past trauma, build self-compassion, and learn to see themselves in new, positive ways.
Community and Connection
You are not alone. Our Intensive Outpatient Program ends isolation and builds supportive connections, empathy, caring peer relationships—building the resilience needed for long-term, sustainable recovery.
Tailored Treatment Plans
Each adult client in our CFF IOP receives an individualized treatment plan informed by their unique history, diagnosis, and goals—including what they wish to achieve in treatment and a vision for the next chapter in their life.

What’s Included in CFF’s Intensive Outpatient Program for Adults
Individual Therapy
Adults in our Intensive Outpatient Program work with our highly trained clinicians to gain greater self-knowledge and develop healthy coping skills to help manage symptoms and triggers.
Co-Occurring Substance Use Treatment
Our IOP provides specific programming for clients who meet the criteria for a co-occurring substance use issue, associated with a primary diagnosis of mood, anxiety, bipolar, or personality disorder.
Daily Therapy Groups
Knowing that you’re not alone is often the key to healing. In our IOP program, adults participate in daily process groups focused around discussion, self-expression, mindfulness, and other approaches.
Family Therapy
When appropriate, clients’ treatment plans at our Intensive Outpatient Program for adults include family therapy with their family of origin and/or their current family, spouse, or partner.
Life Skills Training
Many adults with mental health issues struggle to manage daily tasks and function effectively in college or the workplace. CFF’s adult IOP helps strengthen executive functioning and life skills to support thriving and self-esteem.
Medication Management
Our psychiatric nurses provide medication management and ongoing supervision to ensure optimal results. For many adults, a combination of medication and therapeutic work yields the most robust, long-lasting positive outcomes.
